HOME GYM? Made Simple
HERE’S THE DEAL
You don’t need all that I’m about to share to have a good home gym. A lot of people think they need to get a squat rack and bench set up for the home gym. The problem? That takes up way too much room and unless you are a competitive powerlifter there is no real reason (in my opinion) to use the space that way. Simply, get a sandbag and do squats with the sandbag. Do weighted push ups for the bench or get a portable bench with an adjustable d-bells.
Alright, alright, alright
Anyways, here’s what I have for my home gym set up. My goal is for this to give you encouragement that you can get creative on how you set up your space - based on your goals! My actual equipment for lifting doesn’t take up a ton of room. The sauna and ice bath do… and those are not “necessary” or practical for everyone. BUT we use ours a TON. Especially the sauna- we love that thing
Garage is set up for summer *driveway) workouts!!
I’ll pull all of this out into the drive way for my workouts. It takes 3-4 mins to drag out and get set up. (Got a solid system haha) and.. it makes for a good warm up!
Here’s what I got in here:
-FitGym (pull up/dip bar + band attachment)
-Echo bike
-55lb farmer handles
-Go ruck bag
-100+ lbs of free weights
-30 lb d bell
-Flat bench
-100lb sand bag
-25lb kettle bells
-60lbs dumbbells
Random things …
Got the sauna in the back
The converted deep freeze is an ice bath (currently being used to store my biltong dryer and old baby car seat)
Today was the first day back in the driveway for a summer workout
I’ll do over half to 3/4 of my training outdoors through the summer months.
Let’s say you are just starting to build out a home gym…. and you say you want to do 50% of your training from home. Here’s what I would recommend:
Well, first things first- the ECHO BIKE is one of the best cardio tools on the planet. Take that for what you will. Again, you can just run or ruck from your front door though so don’t NEED the echo bike.
If I was you just starting I would get :
-Pull up/Dip bar set up that accommodates BANDS. I have the fit-gym here. You can find them online. With this you can basically do EVERYTHING machines can do (with the bands) to some extent.
-Set up D BELL or kettlebells
-A GoRuck 4.0
That’s a great start. You’ll be able to get a good workout in right from the house anytime.
Remember, don’t over complicate this! You can get a good workout in simply by doing push ups, air squats and sprints/runs right from the front door! Your body can be the “machine” or “weights” but having a few things to move around is always fun.
