Something > Nothing
Those “something’s” really be stacking up over time. The compound effect is real! The “i’ll get to it tomorrow” vibe is killing goals and dreams. This could be for your work, personal or relational life.
Who I am…
Years ago my mom was visiting me at my first house. She said “you should hang up Christmas lights” I thought that was a good idea. I said “great idea. I’ll do it now!” At 9p.m I went to Walmart and bought Christmas lights and starting hanging them up on the gutters. She said “you’re crazy!” I said.. “There’s no time like the present!”
I live this way
I do not like procrastination vibes. Every time I procrastinate it evaporates my energy. Energy for all things! It’s the way I’m designed… maybe you can relate? For example, a tornado ripped through our neighborhood this past week. (You can read about it here) I woke up early the next day and got RIGHT TO WORK. I didn’t plan to sleep till I got the home back in order. I knew if I let even a second of procrastination in, I would be setting the home up to more damage from the rain/ leaks. That little bit of urgency has always been good for my soul. I notice, some crumble under urgency. Others are formed through it. The difference? PERSPECTIVE. If the perspective you take is “oh how will I ever get this done?” thats the energy you will carry through the project. If you take the “alright, let’s get this done! At all cost, this is being completed today!” Or “I’ll figure it out!” Notice the way you feel, just reading this. A completely differnt vibe!
How To Start
It all starts in the mind. Your perspective! Where the mind goes, energy flows and momentum grows. Choose the thoughts you entertain wisely. Now, the perspective is clear. I’m locked in! GO! Start! Something is better than nothing. This is how I do all things. I START and pivot along the way. Thats it. No master plan to get me through to the end. I have a very general outline that gets me going. I’m immediately shot into my work. I adjust accordingly as I am in process. Knowing, something is better than nothing! Once I’m in process, resistance and procrastination are BROKEN. It’s not longer a thing. I’m no longer trying to solve the problem of overcoming procrastination. I have new problems to solve now that I am IN THE PROJECT. Can’t you see?! You gotta get in the game!! FAST. SPEED!! Go, go go! Get in the game- problem solve along the way! More on this… perspectives- GOING FIRST…
Do Hard Things
GO NOW! Adjust along the way
KNOW THIS… something> nothing!
I love your perspective. Too often I can’t decide what to do and end up doing nothing at all. Almost always doing something is better than just waiting.
My wife helps take this approach within the house. If we get home from a long trip or notice something around the house needs put away, we do it right now. Even if it is on the other side of the house, don't put it on the staircase to be put away next time you go do. Go down the stairs and take care of it so you don't have to waste energy thinking about it later!
